Hi, I’m Tim (aka Timothy, aka TimOT)
By profession, I am an occupational therapist that has worked in public healthcare in Toronto, Canada for almost 10 years in various capacities, including starting an adaptive gaming program. Throughout those years, I worked with many different people and empowered them to have greater independence and quality of life. One of the greatest tools in my work has been ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGIES.
When I say, “assistive technology”, I mean any technology that enables people to complete a task easier, whether it be medical, commercial, or custom. Technology is so powerful and can make life so much easier. But with with people with disabilities, it makes the “impossible” possible.
But accessing assistive tech can be difficult due to a number of barriers. These barriers include factors such as high cost, overly complicated technologies, lack of availability, and absence of support to name a few. This frustrated me to no end. That’s why I quit my comfortable hospital job to start my own business that focuses on helping people overcome these barriers to access technology. This was never in my life plans, but God had other plans (which are most certainly better).
Whether you are searching for the right technology solution for yourself or someone else, or you are developing assistive tech, I would be more than happy to help you on your journey. To find out more about how this might happen, contact us for more details.
My Approach
Empowering others
As the famous proverb goes, "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” And so my focus isn’t on doing things for you once, but to enable and empower you to help yourself and those around you over and over again.
I don’t like being constrained to a box. It’s probably one of the reasons I quite hospital work to be my own boss. But this also applies to how I approach my work. I will use all my skills, creativity, and knowledge to find the right solution, even if it’s not a conventional one.
The “50-year goal”
I tell people my “50-year goal” is to help create a system from “coast to coast” by which anyone can freely access the assistive technologies they need and have the support network that can help maintain them.
